Review: Mailman – J. Robert Lennon

check out some thoughts on my favorite book!!

The Sporadic Chronicles of a Beginner Blogger

j robert lennon the mailman cover

Albert Lippincott is a fifty-seven-year-old mailman living in Nestor. He is a little strange – suffering from some mental illnesses and very rigidly stuck in his ways, Albert had a life of potential that went strange. He has a strict routine that he strictly adheres to, a failed marriage and a deceased lover, it all seems very strange to live in Albert’s world. Stunted familial interactions leave him relatively lonely. Mailman (as Albert thinks of himself and how he refers to himself) is a solid guy who loves his job. In fact, there is the possibility that he loves his job too much. Mailman has slipped into the little pastime of stealing some mail (or borrowing it, if you want to see it from his persepctive), taking it home, opening it, copying it, perusing it, sealing it and then delivering it. One such letter proves to be a problem though…

Hi everyone! Okay, so… I’m a little nervous right now.

Some of you may be aware that my friend at Cinema Parrot Disco is a huge fan of Disney & Pixar films. When she mentioned the movie Frozen again recently, I decided it was time I “come clean”.

I realize I’m known for my reviews of nasty horror movies filled with gratuitous nudity but I feel like we’ve all become such good friends here that I can start being myself. The truth is… I LOVE Disney films. Frozen was fantastic and Let It Go deserved the Best Song Oscar it received. I don’t know why I’ve been afraid to admit this before now. There’s just something about Disney movies! The cute animals, the beautiful animation, the wonderfully catchy songs I can’t help but whistle while I eat beef jerky and drive to work in my big manly truck, the important…

And he’s back for more! Today for the John Hughes Blogathon, we have another review from my buddy Eric of The IPC. Seriously – thanks for everything, Eric! Let’s see if he liked The Breakfast Club as much as Weird Science. 🙂

THE BREAKFAST CLUB 1985

On my site, I usually try and steer clear of the more mainstream movies – especially the big popular ones that everyone’s seen and / or already written about. Mainly because what can I say that already hasn’t been said and also because you good people already wrote about it and did it better than I could. When Mrs. Disco popped up going on about a John Hughes blogathon I was all “ehhhhhhhhhh you know I like you but…..” and then she convinced me to watch Weird Science (again) and The Breakfast Club (and something else) that I hadn’t seen. “You’re OLD…

Granted, not necessarily a scene, but this was just brilliant and certainly needed sharing! If you need a way to sell Breaking Bad to someone, this is the way to do it!

If you have a scene that you would like featured, drop me a mail at sporadiczoe@hotmail.com with a picture/gif/video of the scene and an explanation as to why (should you want to include it).

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (12)

I’m not ashamed to admit I’ve always had a extreme fear of apes.  From King Kong to Dunston Checks In I’ve had a horrible uneasy feeling when I see a primate on the screen.  Maybe its because they represent the savagery of our ancestors or maybe its because they have those freaky hands for feet.  Knowing all this you’ll understand why I was chilled by the trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  Scenes of apes watching people as they slept or dropped from trees to attack humans scared the life out of me.  However after seeing the full movie I don’t know if I was relieved or dissapointed as you’ll read below.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes or ROTPOTA as I’ll call it from now on is a prequel to 1968’s Planet of the Apes about a…

The Screenkicker Podcast – Winter Sports Special

Ever wanted to listen some Irish and Scottish guys talk about Russians?? Do so at Screenkicker Movies!

Screenkicker!

Ready, steady, go! Is that even what they say at real life races? I have no idea. Did everyone enjoy the Winter Olympics in Sochi? Do you watch it for the athletic achievement or like me do you watch for strangely dressed people falling in snow? This month’s podcast is just for you!

image God bless the Ukraine!!!

As always the theme is derailed pretty quickly with some of the highlights being:

A discussion of the film careers of obscure actors Leon and Professor Toru Tanaka.

A quiz about Ukrainian actors.

Chris talking about awful Roger Moore movie Fire, Ice, and Dynamite.

An exciting new feature – Movieholics Anonymous.

image Even the soundtrack is amazing!

We hope you enjoy this one. As always let me know what you liked and what you didn’t like. Be as insulting as you want, we can take it! Click on the player below to unleash…

Premiere Particulars: Bates Motel

Like Bates Motel?? See some more thoughts at one of our favorite blogs ever: Silver Screen Serenade!

Silver Screen Serenade

Between two posts about Hannibal and now this, I am just all kinds of macabre lately! I promise I do not exist solely on a diet of TV shows about murderers. That just seems to be the way things are lately. Anyway, I had hoped to get a review of season one of Bates Motel out before the season two premiere last night, but I didn’t manage to swing it.

Smashing Through Life header

My mom is a horror movie aficionado, so when I was growing up I was exposed to a lot of insanely scary horror movies and an absurd amount of horror movie crap early on in my life. She does not discriminate when it comes to movies. It didn’t matter if it was a classic thriller like Jaws, a massive blockbuster hit like The Exorcist, or a total piece of garbage like Rumpelstiltskin. If there was a movie with monsters, or “critters” as my mom would say, and if people got murdered, blown up, mutilated, or destroyed during the course of the movie then it was a movie that my mom wanted to watch. And she didn’t censor us kids from watching them either…

I had a nightmare one time, and I got up to see my mom. She was up late watching Hellraiser and told me that if I…
